What is a Culturally Competent Therapist?

Culturally competent mental health care providers are trained to understand how someone's culture, race, and ethnicity may impact their mental health and the effective way to treat them. They also take into account the significant obstacles and stigmas that people in that culture face daily, which can have a significant impact on their mental health and their ability to seek help from a trusted source.

Cultural Competence working with

Public Safety Professionals

As a mental health therapist specializing in working with public safety professionals, I prioritize cultural competency by recognizing the unique needs of this population. This includes understanding the significance of confidentiality, the importance of building trust over time, and recognizing common traits such as dark humor and a distinct worldview. With over 25 years of experience in this field I am able to provide clients with a safe and supportive environment where they can feel comfortable being open and authentic.

Vision

My therapy practice is carefully designed to meet the unique needs of first responders. I offer minimal intake paperwork and an affordable private pay fee to ensure the highest level of confidentiality. I understand the importance of flexible hours to accommodate shift work and mandatory overtime.

Special features, such as a separate entrance, a private waiting area, and thoughtfully arranged seating, create a confidential environment for public safety professionals seeking quality mental health care. My ultimate goal as your therapist is to provide you with a trusted space to achieve your mental health and wellness goals. Thank you for considering my practice.
